•Managing and supervising up to five boatyard staff including casuals.

The position involves;

Sailing Race Officer - RMYC Broken Bay NSW

Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay has gained the reputation of being one of Australia's most progressive and acknowledged yacht clubs.

Situated in Newport, 30kms north of Sydney CBD, the club overlooks the beautiful waters of Pittwater and has easy access to the Hawkesbury River and Tasman Sea. RMYC provides ideal boating facilities, including a floating marina, boat launching ramp, swimming pool, slipway, fuel and pump out services, restaurant, a pizzeria three bars and a variety function rooms and areas. The club has currently 3,500 members of which 50% are boat owners.

The RMYC has two sailing divisions one for mono hulls and the other for multihulls. The Club conducts more than 150 races a year. The Sailing Race Officer will be responsible for conducting safe and fair racing for all competitors.

The function maybe a shared role depending on the successful applicant’s circumstances and availability. The Race Officer will also assist in the processing of results in conjunction with the Series Co-ordinator.

The successful candidate, if required will have job support and training available. Training and upskilling of the race management volunteer base, would also be an important role in the job.

This is a Casual Part Time Position which takes in most weekends throughout the year. Monday Twilights run from October through to April and Friday Twilights are conducted every week throughout the year except for public holidays. Sunday yacht racing takes place for nine months and multihulls race most Saturdays throughout the year.

Ideally we are seeking applicants with a sound knowledge of sailing and yacht racing and ideally that person will have experience in Race Management. Training in Boat Handling, Race Management, and other key areas can be provided for a suitable candidate.

The successful candidate will report directly to the RMYC Development Manager. He or she will liaise closely with the two sailing division committees and in particular the individual Race Series Co-ordinators.

From time to time, the RMYC conducts extra races, race series and regattas which may require the Sailing Race Officer to be involved with and will work directly with the event director, and club management.

The Boating Industry Association (BIA) is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to assist the Centre Manager with the day to day operations at the Watson’s Bay Pilot Station. This is a casual position to meet the growing needs of the WBPS – in particular during the 2017 school holidays periods.

The Centre aims to educate young people on general boating safety, to raise awareness of the risks involved while learning new skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

To assist with:

  • Delivery of on and off-water training activities under supervision
  • Careful control of all on-water activities within designated operating areas
  • Operation of the RIB support vessel as and when required
  • Collection of fuel, and refuelling vessels
  • Maintenance of craft and equipment
  • Wash-down and general care of vessels and safety equipment
  • Classroom and vessel set-up and preparation
  • Light cleaning duties following activities
  • Ensuring good order and discipline from groups using the site
  • Ensuring the groups are engaged in educational activities

Hours of duties:

Normal operating hours for the Centre is 9:00am to 5:00pm from Wed – Fri however, flexibility in working days and hours will be required especially during schools holidays. Occasional weekend work may be required.

The successful applicant must be willing to work with a variety of customers, stakeholders and the local community, and be flexible with their working days. This is a physically active role assisting with training delivery on and off the water in recreational water craft and skills.

  • A flexible attitude and professional work ethic capable of dealing with the public – especially children every day;
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changes in the working environment;
  • Flexibility in working days;
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision, and be self-motivating;

Relevant experience:

Yard Hand, Fenwicks Marina, NSW

Fenwicks Marina in Brooklyn is currently seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking person to join its team as a Yard Hand.

Experience in the marine industry, including jet washing, antifouling, detailing and osmosis work is essential.

Travel lift & fork lift experience is an advantage but not essential.

Must be reliable and able to work in a team environment, and have a high level of attention to detail.

On the job training will be provided.
