CMO - Certified Marina Operator

CMO's have a least 3 years Marina Manager experience managing a small marina facility (under 100 vessels).

The internationally recognised Certified Marina Operator (CMO) designation is the assurance that your future can be both financially and professionally rewarding and distinguishes you as an outstanding marina professional.

The Global Marina Institute (GMI) an educational partnership between the British Marine Federation (BMF) and Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA), offer the CMO program in Australia, UK and Europe.

Prerequisites and Career Pathway


You must have 3 years Marina Manager experience managing a small marina facility (under 100 vessels), during the 3 years you must have done all of the following:

  • Managed a marina operation with annual gross operating revenue of at least AU$500,000
  • Managed a marina business with at least 50 boats in berths, mooring and/or dry stack
  • Be currently in the marina management business
  • Have completed a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a active member of a trade association (MIAA)
  • Completed the Marina Operators Course
  • Can satisfy the review committee that your marina management experience passes the 14 point test (see CMO handbook)

CMO Annual Reaccreditation

CMOs are expected to continuously improve and are expected to annually submit a record of their Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

The requirements for reaccreditation are:

  • 10 credits for continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Continuing employment in the Marina Industry
